A Dance Class For Me! DescriptionIMPORTANT UPDATE
Due to unforseen circumstances classes will start April 2023. The discount will remain in place until then. Do you have a child who hasn't found an activity they can participate in because of sensory processing or other issues? Please consider A Dance Class For Me! This class is for them. A place to dance, play, socialize, copy, lead, and learn how to dance, dance, dance with me, me, me!
For parents who have not found an activity their child can enjoy or an activity that truly is for their special needs child this class may be the answer.
This class is specifically designed to help students with moderate to severe conmunication or behavioral issues on or off the autism spectrum. All students with or without special needs are welcome to the class. Through specific movement we can create neural pathways between the left and right hemispheres of the brain to meet the goal of improving speech and communication. By patiently allowing students to process the stimuli in the class room and to copy the instructor, each student will connect brain and body a little bit more each week. Each student's confidence, coordination, and social skills will improve over the course of a few weeks. |
PLEASE NOTE:
In A Dance Class For Me! some behaviors are not considered maladaptive or inappropriate and are not corrected. Those behaviors are talking, yelling, flapping, spinning, running, jumping, anything a student does to help his or her brain calm itself. Maladaptive behaviors that are addressed and stopped are: hitting the instructor, other kids, the wall, or the mirror. If you have questions or concerns regarding your own child's behavior, please feel free to ask Elizabeth Chacon what can be done for the benefit of your child or student.
COVID-19 Update to Rules
PLEASE BRING A MASK JUST IN CASE THESE REQUIREMENTS CHANGE
The instructor, Elizabeth, is fully vaccinated but will keep her mask on if the parents prefer it. Elizabeth respectfully asks all parents in the room to wear the mask if one parent feels uncomfortable in a room with unmasked people. The younger students are not expected to keep the mask on throughout class because the masks can become uncomfortable. Please read the sign on the door at Atomic Ballroom for mask protocol. Thank you. |

Mommy (Daddy) & Me Style!
18 months to 2 years old / Private classes or semi-private (30 minutes)
If you have a typical child or a child with a possible autism diagnosis around 18 months to 2 years old, or if you are seeing more tantrums than communication, this class might be a good fit for you.
Children at this age have limited ability to dance but lots of ability to have fun. Your child will learn to "mand" or ask for what they want, tell us what activity in they prefer, and learn to ask for help. You can learn and practice what to do when a tantrum starts, learn to see it coming, and learn what calms your child. Most of all, learn what your child loves to do! Play, laugh, and dance with your child. Let's build a community of support for these little ones. |

Rules for All Classes!
We practice the safest rules and most polite language.
Students are taught self-calming techniques to use when they feel overwhelmed by the size of the class, the room, the instructor's demand to copy or other reasons.
Each student learns everyone is a role model for someone. Students become role models to new students and they can carry that confidence with them into the world.
