A Note About COVID-19 and In Studio Sessions
All parents of special needs children have gone through a huge change in schedule (a consistent schedule can be crucial for children} and parents may have been thrown into the role of a homeschooling parent. Getting out for a class might be too difficult.
|
But if you want or need to get out, the good news is that restrictions have been lifted for the studios Elizabeth uses, Club Fitness Addition in Huntington Beach and Atomic Ballroom in Irvine. So now parents can bring their child to A Dance Class For Me!

COVID-19 Update to Rules
Parents and students must enter the building with masks on. The instructor will take everyone's temperature (please don't come if you feel sick or have been exposed to COVID-19.) The instructor, Elizabeth, will keep her mask on. She respectfully asks all parents in the room to wear the mask and keep social distance as much as possible. The younger students are not expected to keep the mask on throughout class because the masks can become uncomfortable. Please put them back on your child after class to leave the building. Thank you.
REMINDER:
In A Dance Class For Me! some behaviors are not considered maladaptive or inappropriate and are not corrected. Those behaviors are talking, yelling, flapping, spinning, running, jumping, anything a student does to help his or her brain calm itself. Maladaptive behaviors that are addressed and stopped are: hitting the instructor, other kids, the wall, or the mirror. If you have questions or concerns regarding your own child's behavior, please feel free to ask Elizabeth Chacon what can be done for the benefit of your student.

For parents who have not found an activity their child can enjoy or an activity that truly is for their special needs child this class may be the answer.
This class is specifically designed to help moderate to severe students on the autism spectrum or with other special need. All students with other issues are welcome to the class.
Through specific movement to create neural pathways between the left and right hemispheres we can meet the goal of improving speech and communication. By allowing students to process the stimuli in the class room and to copy the instructor at their own pace each student will connect brain and body a little bit more. Each student's confidence improves over the course of a few weeks.

Tap dance is also offered. Tap can be a separate class or added to the end of the class described above. Tap helps with rhythm and at the end of the class we have an impromptu "Tap Jam" so the students can express themselves using tap rhythm and some attitude.
There are tap shoes to try on available. Some students love making the tap sound and others don't. You can put the shoes on your child before deciding if you want to put your child in a tap class. |

If you have a typical child or a child with a possible autism diagnosis around 18 months to 2 years old , or if you are seeing more tantrums than communication, this class might be a good fit for you. Learn and practice what to do when a tantrum starts, learn to see it coming, learn what calms your child. Play, laugh, and dance with your child. Let's build a community of support for these little ones. Children at this age have limited ability to dance but lots of ability to have fun, they will learn to "mand" or ask for what they want, tell us what activity in they prefer, and they will learn to ask for help. |
Rules for All Classes!
We practice the safest rules and most polite language.
Students are taught self-calming techniques to use when they feel overwhelmed by the size of the class, the room, the instructor's demand to copy or other reasons.
Each student learns everyone is a role model for someone. Students become role models to new students and they can carry that confidence with them into the world.
