About Elizabeth Rose Chacon, Dance Instructor, and Comedy Improvisation Instructor for Special Needs,
Certified Autism Movement Therapy® Provider
Elizabeth was born dancing so her mother enrolled her in dance class at age 5. She studied ballet, tap, and jazz for many years.
Her teaching career began in high school. She started working with tiny dancers ages 3 to 4. She continued teaching, ages 3 to adult, through college and after graduation from UCLA.
Elizabeth earned a Bachelors Degree in Dance at UCLA. She competed in Scottish Highland Dance throughout college. She danced in local operas and musicals, danced Samba professionally with local Brazilian bands, worked with modern dance choreographers; she also co-produced and choreographed modern dance concerts.
Elizabeth worked with a women’s full force self-defense group where she not only learned to fight back, she learned a lot about crisis intervention. She also studied and performed comedy improvisation on stage to get over her fear of public speaking. It worked!
In 2013, Elizabeth decided to start a new career when she discovered Autism Movement Therapy® created by Joanne Lara, MA. After meeting Ms. Lara and observing her class in Van Nuys, CA Elizabeth became a Certified Provider.
With a new name, A Dance Class For Me! all children with or without special needs are welcome to the class.
The Downs Syndrome Association of Orange County (DSAOC) invited Elizabeth to teach Comedy Improvisation in their Summer Program to teens and young adults. The Summer Session was successful and she has been invited back for the Fall.
Elizabeth is now certified in Reiki Level 1 and 2 with a plan to help caregivers and parents relax in a year's time.
